Joy of Life-14 & 15

In the set of these two paintings, the composition enfolds the mother tortoise with her offspring’ and in the background are painted concrete structures reflecting as high-rise towers of Gurgaon, where I live. The thought of the motherly care of the tortoise is artistically represented as she is worried about the life of her offspring. It is exceedingly unfortunate that in contemporary settings, the millennial cities are losing their individuality as the urban spaces appear cyclical, alterable, and dynamic, thus shrinking the area for the animals to sustain their survival and forget to live a comfortable life. In the painting, one could easily discover that the mother tortoise is feeling vulnerable and the fear of not promising longevity to its brood is killing her from inside. Fears of the invasion of the habitat and effects of humans are making the situation appalling. We all will agree with the fact and for this should become more connected to our dependable nature as species do have feelings too. There is no dearth to the fact that humans depend a lot on healthy ecosystems and when these systems start unraveling, as evidenced by the accelerating rate of species endangerment, it is a call for humans to pay attention and act. The mother tortoise in its predicament is determined and aspires to fly with its offspring in the land of kindness and love, where all have a space to live happily, in both paintings.
